Tybee Island Fishing Report and Tips

Tips for fishing on Tybee Island?
Most visitors to the beach are NOT very experienced saltwater fishermen.
That is fine as long as you follow our golden rules.
1) "Use hooks that
look WAY too small."
That's right, the number one mistake that most make is to use hooks that
never catch fish. (See picture below.)
2) If using shrimp, use UNCOOKED shrimp (grey not pink) and take off the
shell.
3) Use VERY small pieces of bait. Your bait should just cover the rounded
end of the hook.
4) Use only enough weight to keep your line from drifting. Start with 1
or 2 ounces. This allows you to feel bites better and set the hook better.

The CORRECT hooks are the two on the RIGHT.
Most use the first which is MUCH TOO BIG.
Using an extra small hook will catch 4 times as many fish. We have
caught 50lb+ sharks on these little hooks as well as a 36 lb king
mackerel. Make sure your drag is set to medium. |
